Let's Talk About Art
Uncanny Theatre 2017
Originally commissioned by the Yorkshire Sculpture Park "Lets Talk About Art" was our challenge to elitist discourse around visual art.
We were tired of hearing people act as though their own subjective responses to art had no value so we turned it into an ridiculous game.
One person was the sculptor; they had nothing but a lump of clay.
Another was the describer: they had a picture of a random sculpture from the gallery/park
The rules were simple, we were going to recreate the whole collection, each sculptor was going to working against the clock to make something that they couldn't see.
The describer is a megaphone distance with a picture of a sculpture and a rule: they can only describe it either in terms of what it reminds them of, or how it makes them feel
Our gal was to trick people into having some relatively high level discussions about the artworks themselves without having to worry about being right or wrong.
The piece has been recreated for several galleries up and down the country.
